It’s almost dark by the time Tocci and Chrissy leave, and while it’s been a flurry of new faces, ones I’m beyond happy to meet, right now I just want to talk to Ghost. The door shuts behind us quietly as we slip back inside, and a heaviness presses over me.

My conversation with Chrissy is still swirling around, making me question everything. Most of it I spent telling her about Otaween, about the ship, what it was like to be rocketed through the sky at light speeds. In the end though, I learned something of much greater value from her, Ghost has been keeping secrets from me.

I suppose he was honest about one thing, we have been pretending, according to Chrissy, a true mate bond forms when you grab their tail, as strange as it sounds. Surely he would know, being tailless myself that I wouldn’t know to do that, so he’s purposefully not told me. He’s been holding himself apart all this time and I had no idea.

I didn’t mean to mislead Chrissy, I never actually told her Ghost and I have been together, but at the time I just couldn’t bear talking about it, not when I could see how close she was with her own mate, how happy. I didn’t want my problems bleeding all over her good mood. Like I was possessed I spewed out the same nonsense Ghost fed me earlier about taking me to a tribe. Now I wish I would've just been honest, should have talked about it with her, and gained some clarity from an outside voice that wasn’t totally infatuated with Ghost.
